Finland Reports Suspected Drone Airspace Violation Near Russian Border

(MENAFN) Authorities in Finland report detecting an unmanned aerial vehicle believed to have entered national airspace near the Russian border on Sunday, according to reports.

The Defense Ministry states that the Air Force tracked the drone in the southeastern municipality of Virolahti, close to the frontier with Russia.

"The model or origin of the drone has not been identified. The drone is no longer in Finnish airspace.The case is being investigated by the Finnish Border Guard, which will provide more information as the investigation progresses," the statement added.

Officials indicate that the device has since left Finnish airspace, and an investigation is now underway to determine its origin and purpose, as stated by reports.

In response to the incident, air traffic authorities introduced a temporary flight restriction over a nearby maritime zone at the request of the Air Force, according to reports.
